ASDA’s sedation re-endorsement course uses simulation based training and the principles of Anaesthetic Crisis Resource Management (ACRM) to improve outcomes in an emergency and is an AHPRA approved program for conscious sedation reendorsement.

In 2016, due to the positive participant feedback and observed improvement in performance by participants in the trial two day program (over 3 years) run in conjunction with the Annual Scientific Meeting, ASDA and Dr Ken Harrison made all of our reendorsement courses two days.

The IV Sedation Department of Westmead Hospital has requested that ASDA conduct its reendorsement course in the SIMSUITE at Westmead IV Sedation Department and Clinical Support Unit Conference Room. The facility has the latest high fidelity simulation manikin, SIMMAN 3G, purchsed with the assistance of the Dental Council of NSW.

Day One is a skills maintenance / improvement / refresher workshop designed to reinforce the skills and knowledge required to manage medical emergencies, and provide updates on Sedations as well, at the level expected of Dental Intravenous Sedation practitioners.

Day Two is immersive, simulation based training – focusing on attitude and application. This involves participation in simulated medical emergencies in a dental environment, with a focus on developing non-technical skills, the application of ACRM (Anaesthetic Crisis Resource Management) skills and consolidation of the technical skills refreshed on day one.

We encourage you to bring your staff and referring dentists where you will be providing sedation. One place is included in your registration fee and additional places are available at a reduced fee for non-sedationist dentists, dental auxiliaries and RNs.
